HOW THE LION GOT HIS ROAR by Micah K., age 11

Long ago in the woods….. “Ha! Ha Ha!” all the animals laughed. “Look how silly Lion looks!” Lion stomped off angrily. “If only I had a roar, everybody would obey and respect me like a king.”
Things never got better for Lion, as more, and more the animals made fun of him. One day, Lion went up to talk to King Leopard. King Leopard told Lion that his chance to show off was at the talent show in 2 days. Lion thanked the king for the information, and left. Lion quickly decided that he would practice roaring for the talent show. The next few days didn’t go well. “RROOO…cough!…AAA…cough!” Lion went to see his one and only friend Alligator, for advice on how to strengthen the time for holding the breath.

“Why don’t you go to the lake, and practice breathing underwater?” Alligator suggested.

“That’s a great idea! Thanks Alligator!” Lion replied happily. At the lake, Lion jumped into the water. He held his breath for 5 seconds. “HHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh!” Lion gasped for breath. He kept practicing, and made his way to 6 seconds. Before Lion knew it, it was show time.“Oh Crud! I need at least 10 seconds! Not 6!” Lion thought.

“Welcome to the talent show!” King Leopard shouted. “I need to practice!” Lion thought. Lion told King Leopard, and he took him to a room underground below. In the underground room, Lion tried to practice. “ROOO!…..ROOOOAAAAArrrrrr…..” Lion coughed. Before Lion could take another deep breath, King Leopard came in the room and told him it was his turn to perform. “No pressure. You can do this.” Lion thought. When Lion came in front of the audience, he saw tons of animal eyes peering at him. Over half of the audience was whispering to each other.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to Lion!” yelled King Leopard.

“BOO! BOO!”

Lion took a deep breath and…..”ROOOOOOOOaaaaa…cough!” “Oh no!!” Lion thought.

Everbody started to laugh their heads off. “HA! Ha! Ha!” Lion ran away embarrassed.

The next day, King Leopard came to see Lion. “It’s okay Lion, you did your best.”

“No I didn’t! I flunked badly!” sobbed Lion. “Maybe I should just give up!”

“No. You shouldn’t. Keep on trying.” replied King leopard.

“O…O…kay.” muttered Lion.

“The next show will be in 4 days. I’ll see you later.” King Leopard said walking to Lion’s door.

And so it was Lion kept on trying ….Lion jumped into the lake. SPLASH!…1…2…3…4…5…6…7… Lion hopped up gasping for breath. “Still 3 more seconds!” groaned Lion. Lion kept on trying…SPLASH!…1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…9…BOOM! Lion gasped for breath. “Darn it! Just 1 more second!” And finally…SPLASH…
1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…9…10…KABOOM! Lion hopped up. “Yes! Finally! I did it!” Lion tried roaring. “ROOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRR! I’ve done it!” Lion yelled in triumph.

4 days later….”Next we have Lion performing his Roar!” yelled King Leopard.

“BOOOOOOOOOO!” the audience roared. Lion walked on stage.
“Never give up.” King Leopard’s words echoed in Lion’s head.

Lion took a deep breath…a long    one…..ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRR!”

“WOW! Impressive!” “Yeah,that’s right!” The audience                                                                                       clapped louder than ever in approval. For the first time in his life, Lion felt good. Not just an ordinary feeling, a great one.

“Thank you! Thank you!” Lion bowed to the audience in the sounds of the huge crowd cheering.

“We’re….We’re sorry for bullying you.” All the animals whimpered. “We misjudged you. You’re very talented. Will you forgive us?”

“Of course.” Lion replied smiling.

“Hey, will you play with us every day?” one of the animals asked.

“I’d love to! Thanks!” replied Lion.

“Can I have your autograph?” one of the animals asked.

“Yeah me too!”

“Me three!”

“You can all have one!” answered Lion. All the animals took a piece of wood nearby. Lion took his paw, and scratched his name, “Lion” in the pieces of wood.

From there on, Lion was a role model for demonstrating that you should never give up. He’s a great animal that many look up to.

    I personally LOVE tails about animals that happend along time ago,so I love this one. It is awsome!
